Genre 2: Transformer, A poem.
The Asian child was born a typical boy
and presented with a Transformer toy
A robot in disguise
Given to a boy who became
An Asian in disguise.
He was outcast for his dumplings, his looks, and his wit;
And yet, he found strong feelings for a girl,
Who happened to be of a different ethnicity.
The others wouldn’t let them go out;
So he transformed himself and chose a different route.
A white child now, the All-American boy
Had a dark secret, one he could never avoid;
His cousin Chin-Kee followed him to and fro,
Bringing his reputation to a crashing low.
Embarrassed by the secret he tried to hide,
The boy fought his cousin, hoping he died.
The fight was fruitless, and the boy transformed once again;
Back to being Asian, but looking more like a man.
He realized that his culture is not something filled with shame,
And if others can’t see that, well then they have only themselves to blame.
Done with transforming, with toys once and for all,
The man sat down for some bubble tea and waited for an old friend to call.
